The journey begins!

I am starting this blog as a diary for myself and those following my weight loss journey.
Tomorrow (17th April 2012) I have my initial appointment with the surgeon Mr Ian Michell to discuss when I can get Gastric Sleeve surgery. I have all the funds worked out (ouch!) and done my research so feel like I just need to book it in now!

Today I weigh 149.2kgs, the biggest I have been is 178kgs after having my second baby, at the beginning of December 2011 a group of friends decided to start a weight loss group on facebook. At this time I weighed in at 158.7kgs and it has been a fantastic support to loose as much as I have with their support. I recently got down as low as 145kgs but this last weekend I had my hens night away and consumed a few (read many) calories and am hoping the extra few kilos this morning is mostly from that and they will drop away quickly.

A little about my self, I am 27 and always been big, suffer from PCOS and arthritis. Due to the arthritis I am limited to the exercise I do. I have 2 small kids and am getting married in 19 days. When I got down to the 145kgs I had to stop loosing weight because my wedding dress is a bit big now! Whoops. But I have taken the don't loose weight a bit far and put some back on :-(. This week (after the hen's weekend now) I am back into things full steam. Going back down to 1200 calories a day and getting on my new treadmill every night.

I am rather nervous about my appointment tomorrow. Not sure why as I am led to believe there is no reason they will say no to the operation but just eager to get it sorted. I feel like I need this surgery as I never feel full or satisfied so end up over eating and because I have so much I have stretched my stomach to massive proportions. The gastric sleeve (or sleeve as I will most likely end up referring to it as) will shrink my stomach to 150-200ml capacity. Weight loss is rapid for most people and seems to be long lasting for those who do the right things. I choose a sleeve after much research because I have a latex allergy and don't like the idea of something being put inside me and left like the band (I know many say it has no latex but I was told that no one can guarantee that and it may have come in contact with latex, not risking it). I had considered the gastric bypass, but the sleeve seems to be an easier surgery (still key hole unlike the bypass) and there is less issues after ward with nutrition absorption.

So wish me luck, hopefully I will get some answers tomorrow and have a surgery date soon.
